A Heritage Built on Quality

Originally established in Baltimore, USA, Champion Brush developed a strong reputation for manufacturing quality grooming brushes for horses, pets and livestock. With a focus on practical design, dependable materials and lasting performance, the brand became a familiar name among equestrian professionals and enthusiasts, particularly across North America. In 2001, Champion Brush was acquired by The Hill Brush Company, bringing together two businesses with a shared appreciation for traditional brushmaking, quality materials and craftsmanship.

During its time under Hillbrush ownership, Champion Brush continued to serve the equestrian market with its established ranges, combining traditional wooden brush blocks with carefully selected natural and synthetic fibres.

Trusted in the Stable. Proven in the Field.

Champion Brush built its reputation around practical, dependable grooming tools designed for everyday use in the stable, at home and in competition environments.

Over the years, the range developed to cover everything from initial coat preparation and mud removal through to finer finishing work, with different brush shapes, fibre combinations and levels of stiffness chosen to suit specific grooming tasks.

Winner's Circle®

Winner's Circle® became one of the most recognisable parts of the Champion Brush range, combining traditional brushmaking with materials selected specifically for equestrian grooming.

The collection included a variety of body brushes, dandy brushes and finishing brushes made with wooden backs and carefully selected natural and synthetic fibres.

Different fibre combinations allowed riders and grooms to choose a brush to suit the job in hand, whether that meant lifting dried mud and loose hair, working through a thicker coat or creating a smooth, polished finish before entering the ring.

The emphasis was always on straightforward, well-made grooming tools that felt comfortable in the hand and could withstand regular stable use.

Beastie & Specialist Grooming Brushes

The Champion portfolio also extended beyond traditional wooden grooming brushes.

The Beasties range offered practical, colourful grooming tools designed for regular stable use, giving customers an alternative to more traditional brush styles while retaining the durability expected from an everyday grooming product.

These products helped broaden the Champion Brush offering, making the brand suitable for everyone from leisure riders and younger equestrians through to professional yards and experienced grooms.

Dandy & Body Brushes

At the heart of the Champion Brush range was a broad selection of traditional grooming brushes, each designed to perform a different role within a horse's grooming routine.

Stiffer dandy brushes helped loosen dirt, mud and debris from the coat, while softer body brushes were suited to regular grooming and removing finer dust and loose hair.

For the finishing stages, softer natural fibres could be used to smooth the coat and help produce the clean, polished appearance associated with show preparation.

This variety made it possible to build a complete grooming kit around the horse, coat type and level of finish required.

The Next Chapter for Champion Brush

On 23 June 2026, ownership of Champion Brush officially transferred from The Hill Brush Company to Old West Brands, a division of Old West Industries, Inc. The sale included the Champion Brush product range, remaining inventory, the Winner's Circle® brand and the Beasties trademark.

With an established presence in the American equestrian industry, Old West Brands is well placed to take Champion Brush forward. Its existing portfolio includes the Wright-Bernet and Desert Equestrian ranges, making Champion Brush a natural addition to the business. Hillbrush is proud to have played a part in the Champion Brush story and looks forward to seeing the brand continue to develop and grow under its new ownership.
